Vitamin C

Secret super power: It's an antihistamine. High dose it to stop seasonal sniffles or minor reactions. I do 3,000mg’s twice a day, with lots of green tea. No donuts. See cautions below!

My favorite. Vitamin C is a vitamin no human can do without. We need to ingest a good amount daily in our diet. It is, I'll venture, the most commonly known and purchased vitamin out there.

Otherwise known as ascorbic acid (C6H806 if you really want to sound smart), it quenches all water soluble toxins, free radicals, in the body. It is needed to build collagen, carnitine, proteins, and bones. You need lots of course to rebuild these tissues after an injury, if you are a child still growing, or if you are aging and want to slow that down with fresh healthy collagen. Absorption of Iron and Calcium don't happen without it, pretty essential. We also need it to make some of our neurotransmitters to keep our moods balanced. Think of anyone in your life who could use a bit?

Vitamin C is most famous for its ability to stimulate white blood cell immune system activity. It is bactericidal, and antiviral. If you are fighting off any sort of infection, you need tons of it.

Did you know all other mammals, animals, and heck plants make their own ascorbic acid? We have to get it in our diet or we eventually bleed out, disintegrate, degrade, get ill, and die. Slowly.

Yes Everyone but us humans make it, oh and primates, guinea pigs, and an odd species of bats. Nice. A 150lb Monkey makes his own 4,000mgs daily. Do you eat 4,000mgs of vitamin C daily? Not likely. You’d have to eat like a gorilla. Adult gorillas eat 4500mg’s daily in the wild. On a calm day, Mice, cats, dogs, and cattle, make about 10,000mg’s daily, adjusting for equivalent body weight of humans.
